TL;DR: MyGarage helps you manage your vehicles. We collect only the data you provide about your vehicles and maintenance. Your data is yours—you can export or delete it anytime. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising tracking.
1. Introduction
Welcome to MyGarage. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application. Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the application.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide to Us
- Account Information: When you create an account using Google Sign-In, we receive your email address, name, and profile photo from Google.
- Vehicle Information: Make, model, year, VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), color, mileage, license plate, and nickname for your vehicles.
- Maintenance Records: Service dates, mileage at service, cost, service type, location, and notes about maintenance performed.
- Photos: Images of receipts, maintenance records, or your vehicles that you choose to upload.
- Financial Information: Vehicle purchase price, loan details, and insurance information (if you choose to provide it).
2.2 Information Automatically Collected
- Usage Data: App features used, screens visited, and time spent in the app.
- Device Information: Device model, operating system version, and app version.
- Crash Reports: Technical diagnostics when the app crashes (no personal data included).
2.3 Information From Third-Party Services
- NHTSA VIN Decoder: When you enter a VIN, we use the free, public NHTSA database to retrieve vehicle specifications.
- Google Sign-In: Basic profile information as authorized by you.
- Apple In-App Purchase: Transaction data for subscription and add-on purchases (handled by Apple).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide Core Services: Store and display your vehicle and maintenance data.
- Cloud Sync: Sync your data across your devices if you have an active subscription.
- Maintenance Reminders: Send notifications for upcoming maintenance (if enabled).
- Community Features: Share anonymized maintenance history with other owners of the same VIN (with your explicit consent).
- Improve the App: Analyze usage patterns to enhance features and fix bugs.
- Customer Support: Respond to your questions and resolve issues.
- Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and regulations.
4. How We Share Your Information
4.1 With Other Users (Automatic VIN-Level Sharing)
When you record maintenance for a vehicle, the service information (type, date, mileage, parts replaced) is automatically shared with other MyGarage users who own or have owned a vehicle with the same VIN. This creates a comprehensive maintenance history that helps all owners track their vehicle's service record. Your personal information (name, email, purchase price, loan details, notes) and private documents (receipts, photos) are never shared with other users.
4.2 With Third-Party Service Providers
- Supabase: Cloud database provider for data storage and sync (for premium subscribers).
- NHTSA: Public API for VIN decoding (no personal data shared).
- Google: Authentication services and app distribution.
- Apple: In-App Purchase processing and app distribution.
4.3 We Do NOT:
- ❌ Sell your personal data to third parties
- ❌ Use your data for targeted advertising
- ❌ Share your data with data brokers
- ❌ Access your data without your knowledge
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your data:
- Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted between your device and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
- Encryption at Rest: Sensitive data stored on your device is encrypted using iOS Keychain.
- Secure Cloud Storage: Cloud data is stored in secure, industry-standard facilities (Supabase/AWS).
- Access Controls: Strict access controls limit who can access backend systems.
- Regular Security Audits: We periodically review our security practices.
Note: No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Data Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
6.1 Access & Portability
- Export Your Data: Download all your data in JSON format via Settings → Data Management → Export Data.
- View Your Data: All your data is visible within the app at any time.
6.2 Correction & Modification
- Edit any vehicle or maintenance record directly in the app.
- Update your Google account information through your Google settings.
6.3 Deletion
- Delete Individual Records: Delete specific vehicles or maintenance entries.
- Delete Account: Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete My Data permanently removes:
- Your account information
- All your vehicles and ownership records
- Personal photos and receipts
- Purchase prices and private notes
6.4 VIN-Level Data Sharing
We capture and retain anonymized, VIN-level maintenance records to provide valuable insights to future users about a vehicle's maintenance history. This shared data includes maintenance types, dates, mileage, and service categories associated with specific Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs).
What IS shared: Anonymized maintenance records tied to VINs (e.g., "Oil change performed at 45,000 miles on 2024-03-15").
What is NOT shared: Private photos, receipts, personal notes, or any information that identifies you as the vehicle owner. Your identity remains completely private.
7. Data Retention
Active Accounts: We retain your data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services.
Account Deletion: Personal data is deleted within 30 days of account deletion request. Anonymized maintenance history may be retained for community benefit.
Legal Requirements: We may retain certain data if required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention).
8. Children's Privacy
MyGarage is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable laws.
10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights:
- Right to know what personal information is collected
- Right to know if personal information is sold or disclosed
- Right to say no to the sale of personal information (we don't sell data)

- No Advertising Trackers: We do not use third-party advertising trackers or pixels.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. We will notify you of material changes via:
